How do I choose the right darts weight?

Choosing the right dart weight depends on your throwing style and comfort. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Beginners: Start with a medium weight around 22-24g
  • Lighter darts (18-20g): Better for players with a faster, more direct throw
  • Heavier darts (26-28g): Often preferred by players with a slower, more arched throw

We recommend visiting our store where you can try different weights to find what works best for you.

How often should I replace my dart flights?

Flights should be replaced when they become damaged, bent, or show excessive wear. Signs it's time to replace your flights include:

  • Visible tears or holes in the flight
  • Bent or distorted shape that doesn't return to normal
  • Excessive "robin hoods" (darts landing in flights)
  • Noticeable change in your dart's flight path

Most casual players replace flights every 3-6 months, while serious players may change them monthly or even more frequently.

What's the difference between steel tip and soft tip darts?

Steel Tip Darts
  • Used with bristle dartboards (sisal fiber)
  • Standard in pubs and professional play
  • Heavier barrels typically (22-26g)
  • Require manual scorekeeping traditionally
  • Longer lifespan than soft tip darts
Soft Tip Darts
  • Used with electronic dartboards
  • Popular for home/game room use
  • Lighter barrels typically (16-20g)
  • Automatic scoring with electronic boards
  • Tips need periodic replacement

Note: Many players maintain both sets to enjoy different gameplay experiences!

How do I maintain my dartboard?

Proper maintenance extends your dartboard's lifespan and improves play. Follow these tips:

Essential Maintenance Practices
  1. Rotate Regularly: Turn your board 1/4 turn weekly to distribute wear
  2. Clean Gently: Use a soft brush or damp cloth (never soak or pressure wash)
  3. Avoid Moisture: Keep away from humid areas to prevent swelling
  4. Proper Lighting: Ensure good lighting to help players see clearly
  5. Check Wiring: For spider-type boards, ensure wires are flush and not raised

Pro Tip: Let your board rest 24 hours after heavy use to allow sisal fibers to recover

What are the benefits of tungsten darts?

Tungsten is the preferred material for serious dart players due to several key advantages:

Higher Density

Allows for slimmer barrels at the same weight, providing tighter grouping

Better Balance

More consistent weight distribution improves control and accuracy

Durability

Resists wear and maintains shape better than brass or nickel-silver

Tungsten Percentage

Tungsten darts are typically 80%-90% tungsten (with nickel binder). Higher percentages offer slimmer profiles but come at increased cost.

What are the different types of dart shafts?

Dart shafts (or stems) vary by material and design, affecting flight and performance:

Type Material Characteristics Best For
Nylon/Plastic Nylon, Polycarbonate Inexpensive, various colors, durable Beginners, casual play
Aluminum Aluminum alloy Durable, consistent, threaded tops Serious players, competition
Carbon Fiber Carbon composite Lightweight, extremely durable, costly Professional players
Titanium Titanium alloy Strong yet lightweight, premium Advanced players seeking durability
Flexible Special polymer Absorbs impact, reduces bounce-outs Electronic dartboards, beginners

How do I fix loose dart points?

Loose points can affect your throw and damage dartboards. Here's how to fix them:

Quick Temporary Fix:
  1. Remove the point from the barrel
  2. Apply a small amount of nail polish to the point's base
  3. Reinsert the point and let dry overnight
  4. Wipe away excess before use
Professional Solution:
  1. Use a dart point repair kit (available in-store)
  2. Clean both point and barrel threads thoroughly
  3. Apply threadlocker (Loctite) to point threads
  4. Reinsert and let cure as directed
Warning

Never use super glue as it can permanently damage your darts. Avoid hammering points as this may crack the barrel.

For severe cases, bring your darts to us for professional repair service.

What's the best way to improve my darts grip?

Maintaining good grip is essential for consistent throws. Try these solutions:

1
Grip Powders & Waxes

Specialized products that increase friction without leaving residue. Apply sparingly to fingertips.

2
Grip Aids

Silicone or rubber finger sleeves that provide consistent grip surface.

3
Proper Hand Preparation

Wash hands with soap to remove oils, use alcohol wipes during play if hands get sweaty.

4
Dart Grip Enhancement

Consider knurled or ringed barrels for better mechanical grip.
